Flea Treatment Preparation

Items That Must Be Completed Prior To Our Arrival:

  • Vacuum your carpet and furniture, including under and in furniture.
  • Discard vacuum cleaner bag or empty collection canister.
  • Discard or wash pet bedding and toys. Washable items should be washed in hot soapy water.
  • If you are planning to shampoo or steam clean the carpet, please have this done prior to treatment. Cleaning the carpet after treatment could remove the products we have applied for flea control.
  • Sweep and mop floors, especially under furniture, in closets and along baseboards.
  • Wipe all areas of pet activity with warm to hot soapy water. Flea eggs can slip off pets in any area, high or low, that pets can go.
  • Cover your aquariums and unplug the air pumps. We are not responsible for your fish.
  • Remove and clean your pets’ food and water containers as well as litter boxes.
  • Remove all toys & clutter from your floor. Exposed floor space is a key factor to colony elimination. The technician will be applying a light misty spray over as much of the floor surface as possible.
  • It may be necessary to have access to underneath of your home (basement or crawlspace)
  • Treat pets on the day of service if possible.

Items That Must Be Completed Following the Treatment:

  • Keep children and pets off treated areas until the treatment has dried. This may take up to 4 or 5 hours.
  • If you must walk on treated areas wear shoes- no bare feet, socks or slippers.
  • There may be a slight odor left behind. Don’t worry, this is due to the solvents. The active ingredient will not evaporate or vaporize in your home. If the odor bothers you, you may ventilate your house.
  • Adult fleas may be observed after the treatment. The complete elimination of fleas should not be expected for up to a month due to the incubation period. As adult fleas emerge they will come in contact with the flea control products and be eliminated.
  • Vacuum lightly & daily for 14 days. Ordinary vacuums cannot pick up the products we use but can pick up adult fleas.
  • Fleas can re-infest your home from the vacuum cleaner. A small amount of flea powder (1 teaspoon or less) can be vacuumed directly into the vacuum cleaner to kill fleas that have been picked up.
  • When the 14 days are over discard the vacuum bag or thoroughly clean the collection canister. Vacuuming will get the fleas through their cycle more quickly, resulting in better service performance.
  • After 2-3 weeks, your home should be re-treated.

Cockroach Treatment Preparation

In cockroach control, sanitation is essential.

The following steps must be taken before we will perform a cockroach treatment.

Items That Must Be Completed Prior To Our Arrival:

  • All cleaning should be done before treatment, not after.
  • Clean the kitchen thoroughly, including the floor, stove, range hood and appliances. Clean the inside and outside of the dishwasher. Pull out the refrigerator, stove etc. to clean behind and underneath.
  • Everything should be removed from the kitchen cupboards – upper and lower – don’t forget below the sink. Wash all of the cabinets inside and out, wipe out drawers with damp rag, clean the sink and countertops thoroughly. Items that you have removed from the cabinets and drawers may be placed out of the way and should be covered by a sheet or newspapers.
  • Bathroom cabinets and under the sink should be cleared. Wash cabinets and drawers inside and out with a damp cleaning cloth. Clean the sink, tub and toilet. Scrub the bathroom floor. If applicable, empty and clean bathroom closets as well.
  • Pick up and remove trash, inside and outside.
  • Vacuum all of the carpets.
  •  Be sure to notify your technician if you have observed roaches in areas such as bedrooms, closets, the utility room or in any other areas of your home.
  • If bedrooms need to be treated, remove clothes hanging in the closet. Shoes and other items on closet floors must be removed as well. Clean closet shelves.
  • For all rooms to be treated, move everything away from the baseboard to allow your technician access to those areas. Furniture and other items should be moved out at least two feet from the walls.

After The Treatment is Completed:

  • It is very important not to wipe or wash inside your cabinets after we have treated. This would remove the treatment products.
  • In roach control, sanitation is essential. Keep areas under and behind the stove and refrigerator clean. Do not allow food and garbage to accumulate in areas where roaches feed or hide. Pet food should be stored in sealed containers.
  • It is normal to see roaches for several days after the service. It may take several days before you see results and you may even see an increase initially. This is normal, we have “stirred the pot”. The bait we use will also draw them out of hiding and is formulated to work over time to give it a chance to be shared with the colony.
  • After 2-3 weeks your home should be re-treated.

Pursuing Balance. Honest and Simple.

Preserving the world we live in is important for us and for future generations. Maintaining a pest free home is also important. Finding a balance between the two is what we aim for.

We will not claim to be organic or chemical free

We use insecticides. They’re derived from nature. They’re effective and safe. How we use these products is the key. We train our technicians to know what to use as well as where and when to use it for the maximum effect. Think of it this way: You need a wet sponge to clean your counter top. You will turn on the kitchen faucet and turn it off again once the sponge is wet. You are not going to go to the bathtub and fill it all the way up just to get the sponge wet. That would be silly, wouldn’t it? In the same way, we are going to use just enough product to get the job done. There is no need to use more than is necessary and overuse can cause harm.

The conscientious use of products and the knowledge of our technicians is what makes us eco-friendly

A significant aspect to our method is cooperation and education. We utilize a concept called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This includes working with our customers to identify and eliminate the source of pest problems.

Termite Warranty

Why are Termite Warranties Vital?

According to the National Pest Management Association, termites alone cause over $5 billion in property damage annually.

Subterranean termites live in colonies underground. They feed on dead trees and plants. In this way, termites play a vital role in the ecosystem. Houses and other structures draw termites when wooden portions of the structure connect with the ground. Termites cause more damage to structures than fires and floods combined.

Prevent your home from becoming a tasty termite treat by following a few simple steps. Avoid water accumulation around the foundation of your home with proper drainage and clean, functioning gutters. Make sure the crawlspace is well ventilated to avoid humidity. Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house and ensure that no wooden components of the house come in contact with the soil.

Give yourself peace of mind and protect your home and wallet with our Termite Warranty.

Termite infestations can cost a pretty penny, the cost to treat the infestation and cost of repair to termite damage can add up to a high cost. With our Warranty, we will provide an annual inspection to ensure your home is safe. If an infestation does occur, we will do the required treatment at no extra cost to you. Our warranty also covers the cost to repair any damage the termites have caused.

Service Plans

Residential Service Plan

Regardless of the time of year, undesirable pests are surrounding your home, seeking entrance whenever and wherever they have a chance.

Our recurring services are like a shield for your home. Imagine the perimeter of your home encircled with a band of protection, a barrier against unwanted pests. However, the products we use will naturally wear off over time. This is why we return on a regularly scheduled routine to maintain that protection.

What we do

We begin with an initial treatment, flushing out and eliminating any existing pest populations. Because many pest have differing life cycles, you may still notice some occasional pest activity. It is important to break the egg cycle of the pests or they will just keep coming. That is our focus during the first few visits. Of course, we do want to know if you’re noticing an abundance of activity between the regular visits. Once the pest population has been eliminated the following services work to keep the pests from returning. Each new season brings new pests so our technicians are always diligently on the look out for new threats.

Why it works

We use a proven combination of products that each work in their own way to eliminate pest problems. Some products target several different varieties of pests, while others focus on specific pests. A few work immediately, but many of the products we use are designed to work over a period of time. Let’s use ants as an example to explain why.

A line of ants has arrived on your counter top. Your first instinct is to kill them all. But then more arrive. You’ll kill those too, and the next group. The ants figure it out and show up on a different counter instead. The colony is still there and still needs food. Our approach is to place a gel where the ants are looking for food. The ants will gather this “food” and take it back to the colony to share. This eliminates the entire colony instead of just the foragers.

Some pests, like fleas and roaches, require a more aggressive approach. The process of eradicating spiders begins by doing away with their food source. No matter which pest you’re facing, our team of skilled technicians can get the job done.

Mosquito Management

Enjoy time outdoors this summer with the help of our Mosquito Management Services

Mosquitoes are irritating and cause discomfort. However, they can also spread harmful diseases.

Many of us will only ever experience mild to moderate skin irritation from a mosquito bite. However, according to the American Mosquito Control Association, over one million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. And the CDC states ” For most viruses spread by mosquitoes, no vaccines or medicines are available “.

Why take that chance? There are steps you can take to help reduce the mosquito population in your own backyard. Since most mosquitoes lay their eggs on the surface of fresh or stagnant water, the first step is to eliminate any potential breeding grounds. This may seem like common sense but many people often unknowingly invite this dangerous pest into their yards.

Puddles, toys, even a bottle cap can provide plenty of water to attract mosquitoes

Take a thorough look around your property as part of your regular lawn maintenance. Look for items that could be collecting water. Resolve any issues you might find.

  • Gutters – Leaves and other debris gather in gutters. Clogged gutters attract mosquitoes as well as many other types of pests.
  • Leaky pipes – Check for leaks. Also check that spigots are fully shut off after use.
  • Flowerpots – Make sure flower pots are draining properly. Any unused pots should be properly stored.
  • Trashcans – Trashcan lids should be properly fitted. A loose lid will allow water to gather. It will also draw other unwanted pests.
  • Birdbaths and other water features – Keep water fresh. Dump out and refill birdbaths often. Ponds can be stocked with fish, which will eat mosquito larvae. Water features with running water won’t attract mosquitos, but check to make sure they are working properly.
  • Baby pools- Drain small pools and turn upside down when not in use. Don’t leave pools filled with water for long periods of time.
  • Other places water can gather include grill covers, wheel barrows, tire swings and toys.

Protect your family. Your preventative measures along with our Mosquito Management Services will reduce the chances of you or your loved ones getting an illness or disease from a mosquito bite.

WARNING: This page contains photos of insects and other pests.

There are good bugs and there are bad bugs. And no bug belongs indoors.

Ants, spiders, crickets and roaches are just a few of the invaders we deal with. However we do take steps to ensure we’re not harming the good guys. Let’s start you off with some photos of good guys.

We don’t want to harm our pollinating friends like honey bees and butterflies. There are also insects, dragon flies and praying mantises for example, that eat the bad bugs. Can you believe some people will even buy insects such as lady bugs to control aphids and other garden pests?

Nuisance pests:

Some insects are just a nuisance. These bugs are of minor health concerns or structural threat. Notice I do not say none. Every pest holds at least as much danger of spreading illness and damaging property as a toddler does.

These insects belong outside, but will sometimes wander inside. Usually in search of food or water. However, some insects like our useful friend the lady bug will invade in large numbers just because they want a warm place for the winter.

Especially unwelcome pests:

Insects and pests that spread disease and/or cause structural damage are unfortunately becoming more prevalent. And contrary to what many believe, they do not only choose old or filthy homes to infest. Cockroaches, for example, could hitch a ride into your home in grocery bags, cardboard boxes, and second hand appliances.

Pests can also trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children.

Beware these bugs:

There are more than just bees and spiders that can cause a painful bite or sting. This final group of insects are the ones you want to steer clear of.

How will I know when I am scheduled for a treatment?

We send service notifications about seven days before your scheduled service. You can choose to have these sent by automated phone call, text message, and/or email.

What if I want inside my home serviced?

For your convenience, please let us know if you would like inside service performed. We will set a time window for your technician to meet with you. If your regular service has already been performed and you did not receive inside service but wish to have it done, call the office to schedule a free follow-up.

If services are skipped, you may be charged your regular service fee during the agreed upon month whether service is performed or not.

Will you still come in the rain or snow?

Our technicians still work when it is raining or snowing. Especially if you have a set time, we can at least do the inside because you’ve already set aside your time for us. But if the technician decides the weather is too extreme for effective treatment, we’ll reschedule or schedule a follow-up when the weather clears. Some products need moisture to activate, so treating your home during or before a light rain can be just as effective. If the roads are unsafe due to weather, we will let you know and reschedule your service.

What if I see bugs between services?

If at any time you are having problems with any pest covered under our guarantee, please call the office to schedule a free retreat.

What pests are covered under the Pest Free Guarantee?

Most common pests are covered including spiders, ants, roaches, mites, fleas, crickets etc. Pests that are not included in our guarantee are termites, ticks, bed bugs and mosquitoes.

Accounts are past due if payment is not received by 30 days past service date. A late fee of $25 may be added anytime after an account becomes past due. Accounts with two services past due will not receive the next service until payment has been made. Delinquent accounts will result in additional fees, cancellation and placement with a collection agency. Accounts on a payment plan will not receive late fees unless payments are not being made. If you are unable to make a payment on time, please let us know.

What if I’m moving?

As long as you’re moving within our service area, we can transfer service to your new home. We do not charge cancellation fees to our customers who are in the military, as long as proof of moving orders can be provided.
Also, if you are selling your home, you will need a termite inspection before the closing date. We can provide that inspection along with the required paperwork. Give us a call for pricing and scheduling info.

Termites are truly capable of destroying your home!

Crawlspaces or basements

Damp. Dark. Undisturbed. Crawlspaces and basements can provide the perfect climate for a termite colony to thrive. Because these areas are not often visited problems can occur without the homeowner being aware.

Garages and sheds

Garages and sheds provide easy access and multitudes of hiding spaces for all types of pests. Most garages and sheds are not temperature controlled and are vulnerable to the damp conditions that termites love. Sheds that are not placed on a concrete slab are also likely to have wood to soil contact which will draw termites.

Wooden decks draw termites when the wooden posts connect directly to the soil. Many homeowners use mulch in flower beds surrounding their homes. This may look nice but also draws termites to your home. Cedar mulch, recycled rubber and stones are safer options for your flower beds and gardens.

A termite inspection is a process of visually inspecting the interior and exterior of the home and accessible spaces including basements, attics, and crawl spaces.

Inspections should be done regularly to catch an infestation early before much damage is done. Termite inspections are required when selling or refinancing your home.

If you are concerned about the possibility of a termite infestation call GreenShield Pest Control today!
